Isaac Hayes didn't mind being engulfed in fog at this year's Academy Awards show.

In fact, the soul legend says it was a blessing in disguise. "It could have been a disaster but I kept my concentration," Hayes says. "I said, `Isaac, this is not a rehearsal-you've got to keep going.' "

Hayes forged ahead with a performance of his classic "Theme From Shaft" in the Oscar medley salute to movie music, despite being completely shrouded by a fog-effect machine.
