WASHINGTON The National Zoo is hoping to rent a pair of pandas
from China to replace Hsing-Hsing, the giant panda who died in
November.
Smithsonian Institution chief Lawrence M. Small predicted Monday
that he would have no trouble raising an estimated $8 million that
would be needed to rent a new pair of pandas from China for 10 years.
