John William Allen, exec in bakery industry

John William Allen, former chairman and chief executive officer of
J.W. Allen & Co. of Chicago and Wheeling, died Saturday at the age of
76.
Mr. Allen, a longtime resident of Northfield, was born May 3,
1923, and raised in Wilmette. He attended New Trier High School and,
after serving in the Philippines during World War II, graduated from
Dartmouth College in 1945.
He received a masters degree in business from Tuck School of
Business Administration in 1947.
He spent his entire professional career with J.W. Allen & Co. in
Chicago, and later in Wheeling, as a fourth-generation owner. Mr.
