Moseley-Braun cheers `smear campaign' end
|
WASHINGTON Former Sen. Carol Moseley-Braun (D-Ill.) said the
hearing Friday on her nomination to be ambassador to New Zealand,
which resolved lingering ethics questions in her favor, ended "seven
years of a smear campaign" against her.
"I don't know what it takes to put a stake in the heart of that
kind of nasty rumor," she said of the ethics questions that dogged
her single term in the Senate and contributed to her 1998 defeat.
Republican and Democratic members of the Senate Foreign Relations
subcommittee predicted she will be confirmed next week in a posting
