For seven decades, Pullman has been slowly disappearing.
The Pullman Arcade, a lavish building that once housed a theater
and stores near 112th and Cottage Grove, was among the first to go,
razed in 1927. Lake Vista, a landscaped man-made lake in front of
the Pullman Palace Car factory, was filled in when Cottage Grove was
extended south in 1906.
The Pullman Water Tower and Power House, a Victorian saltshaker
of a structure that was the world's tallest building for a brief
spell in the 1880s, was torn down in 1957 after it caught fire.
