William E. Whitehead, Baptist minister

Elder William Ernest Whitehead, 71, founder and pastor of Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 740 E. 42nd, died Thursday in his home.

Mr. Whitehead founded the church in a storefront in 1957. Membership grew from 18 to more than 300, and a new church was built on the site in 1976.
