Benson left guessing after qualifying round

First he was in, then he was out. When a confusing day of golf ended Monday, Steve Benson still didn't know if he would play in the $1.2 million Ameritech Senior Open when the Senior PGA Tour event tees off Friday at Kemper Lakes.

Benson, the head professional at Hillcrest Country Club - a private club in Long Grove three miles from Kemper - was the clubhouse leader after shooting a 71 in the ASO's general qualifying round at the Marriott Lincolnshire Resort. He was still on top of the leaderboard when he returned with only two groups left on the course.
