Lake County breakwaters crumbling // State marina threatened
|
Extreme deterioration has been discovered in the two key
breakwaters protecting the state's $49 million North Point Marina,
the giant, financially ailing pleasure-craft harbor near Illinois
Beach State Park in Lake County - one of the state's busiest parks.
More than two-thirds of the boaters using the 1,500-slip marina
- largest and costliest on the Great Lakes - are from the north and
northwest suburbs and the North Side, records of the seven-year-old
facility show.
A state report, obtained by the Chicago Sun-Times, reveals that
