Lincoln Kirstein; Helped Transform U.S. Ballet

NEW YORK Lincoln Kirstein, the wealthy dance patron who in 1933
brought choreographer George Balanchine to the United States,
transforming American ballet, died Friday at age 87.
Mr. Kirstein died at his home of natural causes, according to
Jeffrey Peterson, a New York City Ballet spokesman.
Balanchine and Mr. Kirstein founded the School of American
Ballet here in 1933 and the New York City Ballet in 1948.
