HOUSTON Russian cosmonaut Vladimir Titov leads a charmed life.
The former Russian Air Force test pilot avoided crashing a
malfunctioning Soyuz spacecraft into the Salyut 7 space station in
April, 1983, saving his ship, two crew mates and his own neck.
Five months later he dodged death again. Ninety seconds before
he and Gennady Strekalov were to be launched to the Salyut station,
