The Washington Ballet gave itself a mountain to climb last night
at the Kennedy Center's Eisenhower Theater, performing four ballets
by three giants of 20th-century dance. And by gum if the dancers
weren't going to scramble and claw their way to the top. They just
about made it, too.
Who, anyway, could be counted on to do justice to George
Balanchine's "Concerto Barocco" and "Tchaikovsky Pas de Deux," Antony
Tudor's "Pillar of Fire" and Paul Taylor's "Esplanade" all in one
evening? Bal...
