Technical Miscues Mar `St. Denis'

Bedeviled by spectacular wind chills outside and slipshod
technical crews indoors, "The Spirit of Ruth St. Denis" nevertheless
made its Chicago debut Friday at the Washington Library auditorium.
Danced by Oak Park's Stephanie Clemens, the concert recalled the
genius of one of the founders of American Modern Dance.
Clemens and Karoun Tootikian, a former St. Denis dancer and a
keeper of the late choreographer's flame, teamed up to reconstruct
dances St. Denis created as early as 1906. Most notable was a
re-creation of St. Denis' groundbreaking concert at New York's Hudson
