`Silent Night' Scores 175 Years in Austria
|
SALZBURG, Austria Adventsingen, the spectacular Christmas pageant
staged each December in the New Festival Hall, ended quietly.
Scores of colorfully attired singers and musicians - most
members of local folkloric societies - sang the andachtsjodler, sort
of a sober "Auld Lang Syne." The audience rose in unison and softly
yodeled along, remembering absent loved ones and basking in the warm
reverie of the season.
