Philip I. Mantua, 64, the former owner and operator of White Oak
Barber Shop who sold the business to an employee in 1982 and
continued to work there until his death, died Jan. 16 at Suburban
Hospital. He had liver cancer.
Mr. Mantua, a Beltsville resident, was a native Washingtonian and
a graduate of Coolidge High School and Chamberlain Vocational High
School.
He and his brother Dominick took over their father's Washington
barber shop in 1957, and by the late 1960s, when the shop moved to
White Oak, Mr. Mantua was the sole owner.
His first wife, Carolyn, died in 1975.
