Despite extensive coverage in The Post [Metro, March 16] and other media, authorities have not adequately addressed the crisis of pedestrian safety in the Washington area.

Motorists, preoccupied with phones and CDs, need to slow down and be on the lookout for impulsive pedestrians. Merely observing traffic signals and crosswalks will not suffice. Frequently I have had to swerve or abruptly brake to avoid hitting people walking at night or in rainy conditions. These folks are usually dressed in dark clothing and dart from behind other vehicles in unlikely spots. Educating heedless walkers ...
