The barometer is both a tool for the weatherman and a decorative favorite with antique collectors. Scientifically, it measures the weight of the atmosphere, and as the barometric pressure fluctuates, any changes in the weather can be predicted.

We take the barometer for granted these days, but it was a subject of superstition when Italian physicist Evangelista Torricelli invented the first one in 1643.
