There was a time when the stretch of 71st Street between
Washtenaw and Western resembled a little Lithuanian village quietly
tucked into Chicago's South Side.
Within those few blocks stood a grocery store, a tailor, a
barber, a butcher, bakeries, delicatessens, restaurants, taverns,
hardware stores, law offices, banks, schools and churches run by
Lithuanians speaking in the native tongue.
