Exchanges heat up as tax package cools down

Real estate owners are turning to one of the most flexible
money-saving tools in the federal tax code: Tax-free exchanges.
Attorneys, brokers and exchange intermediaries in major markets
report a significant increase in real estate exchange activity in the
past six weeks.
"They're coming out of the woodwork," said Kathleen Robinson,
past president of the 4,000-member California Escrow Association and
head of a San Diego-based national real estate exchange company, Park
Camino Escrow.
