Tomba tunes up with 24th victory
|
Italian star Alberto Tomba flashed down the icy Podkoren slalom
course to his 24th World Cup ski victory, beating runner-up Armin
Bittner of Germany by nearly two seconds Sunday in Kranjska Gora,
Yugoslavia.
Tomba was upset Saturday by unheralded countryman Sergio
Bergamelli in a giant slalom. Bergamelli did not compete Sunday, as
Tomba covered the two runs in 1 minute, 40.84 seconds.
Bittner, seeking his first victory this season, was timed in
1:42.78.
It was the fifth victory of the season for Tomba and
strengthened his lead in the over-all World Cup standings. Tomba has
