Nikolai Rukavishnikov, 70, a cosmonaut whose three trips into
outer space for the Soviet Union included two that encountered hair-
raising problems, died Oct. 19 after an apparent heart attack. The
location of his death was not reported.
His first space voyage was in 1971 aboard Soyuz 10, which was to
have delivered the first humans to the orbiting Salyut 1 space
station. The craft docked with the space station, but the crew was
