Dame Margot Fonteyn, the seemingly ageless prima ballerina whose
infectious smile and grace thrilled audiences for 45 years, died
Thursday in a Panama City hospital of the cancer she had fought for
years. She was 71.
Dame Margot had lived on a beachfront ranch in western Panama
since the 1950s. Her husband, political leader Robert Arias, was
paralyzed in a 1964 assassination attempt and died in 1989. The
dancer had been in and out of hospitals in Panama and Houston.
