Scott Hamilton spreads joy with tenor sax

Pauline Kael once wrote that F. Murray Abraham had given audiences more pleasure than any actor of his generation. It was a statement no one except the New Yorker critic took seriously, but I found myself thinking of it the other day in relation to tenor saxophonist Scott Hamilton.

I don't know how many people have derived pleasure from him. But the more I listen to this prolific young veteran (now 36, he has been in the spotlight since his teens), the more I'm convinced there are only a few jazz musicians who are as consistently enjoyable.
