Niemann looking to score miracle // Demons hope guard is back in condition

More than a year ago when doctors diagnosed his back injury, DePaul's Brad Niemann faced bigger worries than a possible lost collegiate basketball career.

"I was more concerned about making sure that 15 years from now I'd be able to play catch with a son," the Glenview native said.

Only two months ago, when his back went into spasms again and left the 6-3 junior guard bed-ridden, coach Joey Meyer assumed the medical predictions had come true.

"The doctors were saying last year `no way, one in a million, 99-to-1' about his chances to come back," Meyer said.
