Depeche Mode takes its music to the masses

BALTIMORE Even a tiny amount of respect doesn't come easy in the popular music marketplace today.

For British synthesizer kings Depeche Mode, the most rewarding response comes at the turnstiles of venues throughout the United States. (They will add to the turnstile count with shows Monday and Tuesday at the World Music Theatre in Tinley Park.)

While many of the unacquainted are busy asking "Depeche Who?," Mode (as they are called by the loyals) has been racking up the most impressive ticket sales of the summer (according to Billboard magazine) in support of its new album, "Violator."
