Star saxophonist Stan Getz returns with two fair albums

Stan the Man is back. Getz, that is. After an absence of several years, the great tenor saxophonist is represented by two new releases: "Anniversary!," a live quartet album, and "Just Friends," a collaboration with singer Helen Merrill. I only wished I liked the albums better to join more fully in the celebration.

As returns to the fold go, "Anniversary!" is neither timely nor triumphant. Taken from a Danish radio broadcast, it documents a July, 1987, performance at Copenhagen's Montmartre Club by Getz and his favorite rhythm section of recent years: pianist Kenny Barron, bassist Rufus ...
