After taking insulin shots daily for diabetes for more than 20
years, Jeanne Rodenkirch gave away her syringes two years ago.
The 30-year-old nurse had a pancreas transplant.
"The doctors don't say that I'm cured. But I consider myself an
ex-diabetic. I'm no longer taking insulin. I feel great,"
Rodenkirch said.
With improvements in surgical techniques and anti-rejection
drugs, transplants of the pancreas, the organ that produces the
