Peter Pan is talking about the joys of taking a walk every morning just as the sun comes up. Wait a minute. This isn't Peter Pan; it's Mary Martin, the legendary American actress-singer who won a Tony Award in 1955 for portraying the boy who could fly.

Seated across from me in her Palm Springs home, working on her needlepoint, Martin looks every inch the charming and dignified superstar she is.
