External respirator offers lift for lungs
|
JERUSALEM An Israeli doctor has invented a lightweight external
respirator that some experts say could revolutionize the treatment of
lung disease.
The Hayek Oscillator, named for inventor Dr. Zamir Hayek,
stimulates respiration with air pressure pumped in and out of a
plastic chamber around the chest of a patient whose breathing is
disabled.
The oscillator requires no insertion of tubes into the patient,
who could use it at home and no longer be restricted to the hospital,...
