`Sweet Charity' shows its age with Candlelight's production
|
It all began with filmmaker Federico Fellini. He cast his wife,
the enchanting Giulietta Masina, as a pure-souled prostitute in his
1957 movie, "Nights of Cabiria."
Nine years later, Bob Fosse loosely adapted the film for his
Broadway musical, "Sweet Charity." And the principal role turned
into a theatrical valentine for his wife of the time, the very
special Gwen Verdon.
This being America, rather than Europe, Charity Hope Valentine
was transformed into a dance-hall hostes...
