Marcos dies, still can't go home // Aquino stands firm: no return to Philippines

HONOLULU Ferdinand E. Marcos, the crafty, controversial,
ruthless and rejected ruler of the Philippines, died in bitter exile
here Thursday, nearly three years after a popular revolt drove him
from his opulent presidential palace in Manila. He was 72.
Marcos had been hospitalized for nearly 10 months with a
multitude of heart, lung and kidney ailments.
With Marcos when he died were his son, Ferdinand Jr., and his
wife, Imelda, who had stood by the ousted president through all his
political, legal and medical problems and was as controversial a
figure as he was.
