NEW YORK Al Pacino was a vision of gloom. He dropped a deep sigh
here; a somber frown there. All of this angst stemmed from one very
normal, boring night in front of the tube when "Entertainment
Tonight" shouted to the world: "AL PACINO REACHES 50."
Sitting in his Manhattan hotel suite with his hair slicked back,
wearing a cream-colored suit and John Lennon specks, Pacino was
soft-spoken, yet his gargled-with-gravel voice was laced with
contempt.
