Rally backs Baltic states' freedom
|
Hundreds of eastern Europeans, mainly natives of the Baltic
states, gathered in downtown Chicago on Wednesday to march and sing
and to pray that their homelands soon would be free of Soviet
domination.
The event marked the 50th anniversary of the day the three
Baltic states lost their independence to the Soviets and coincided
with a demonstration in the Soviet Union in which residents of the
Baltic states linked hands in a 370-mile line from Estonia through
Latvia into Lithuania.
