Space program lacks direction
|
The successful flight of the space shuttle Atlantis and the
launching of its Venus explorer Magellan is both a wonderful thing
and yet another reminder of the disarray in the nation's space
program.
After a weeklong postponement caused by mechanical problems,
the shuttle was launched last Thursday just five minutes before a
deadline that would have scrubbed the mission. And that would have
meant that the interesting, important and already long-delayed
