We must pay high price of press freedom

The odds are that I may never get around to reading Salman
Rushdie's book, The Satanic Verses, but the odds have dropped from a
million-to-one to 10-to-one the last few days.
This major drop in the odds is due to our old friend, the great
religious leader Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, who stated last Tuesday
that the author of the book, "and all those involved in its
publication who are aware of its content, are sentenced to death."
That does beat being banned in Boston in piquing one's curiosity as
to what lies between the covers of a book.
