Kenneth Burns, `Jethro' of comedy team

You can tell a man by his throne.

Musician-humorist Kenneth "Jethro" Burns, who died Saturday night at 68 in his Evanston home, once used a tree stump as a chair during an interview in a guitar store.

It reflected his down-home wit and an up-tempo musical style that bent the rules.

Mr. Burns was best known as the mandolin-playing half of the Homer & Jethro comedy team that produced 35 albums and 300 singles in a 39-year career. Guitarist Henry "Homer" Haynes died of a heart attack at age 51 in 1971.

Last fall, Homer & Jethro were nominated for open category induction in the Country ...
