Frankly, I thought she was dead.

But I sure didn't ask her how old she was. Mother taught me one thing. Manners.

Yma Sumac (pronounced EE-maw SUE-mack) is very much alive. Otherwise, why would people in that long line wait so patiently to get her autograph after her opening night last week at Ruggles?

(Sumac is performing nightly through Saturday at Ruggles Cabaret in the Royal-George Theatre complex, 1641 N. Halsted.)
