Eureka! The `perfect' molasses cookie meets its match in this batch

Every cook has at least one recipe that has proved elusive: a
sort of culinary equivalent of the Holy Grail.
For me, it's the perfect molasses cookie.
Logic doesn't have much to do with this quest. Molasses
cookies, after all, are not even my favorite type of cookie (in fact,
they trail well behind chocolate chip cookies, shortbread and lemon
bars). They represented an obsession because, until last weekend, I
had never been able to produce a great one.
This whole thing with molasses cookies started about 15 years
ago, when I worked (and ate) in my dorm cafeteria at Indiana
