Narcissus is a beauty, and that's not a myth
|
There's a Greek myth surrounding the origin of the narcissus,
and it's a little sad, but then love stories often are.
You see, there was this handsome young man named Narcissus who
went around breaking hearts. Rejected maidens pined away in vain.
But one spurned maiden prayed for revenge: "May he who loves not
others love himself." The prayer was granted, and the young man
found himself unable to stop gazing at his handsome reflection in a
pool. He wasted away and died. When the maidens came to carry away
his body for burial, they found it had vanished. In its place grew a
lovely flower ...
