Stamp commemorates development of elevator

The 39th vehicle in the transportation coil stamps was the first
to show vertical rather than horizontal transportation. It is a
5.3-cent black elevator stamp, with the precancel "Nonprofit/Carrier
Route Sort" vertically in red on the left side to show its intended
use. The stamps were issued Friday in New York City.
