MOSCOW A Soviet-Afghan cosmonaut team retured safely to Earth
early today on their third attempt after being stranded in space for
a day with a dwindling supply of oxygen, the Tass news agency said.
Tass said Abdul Ahad Mohmand, 29, the first Afghan in space, and
his Soviet crewmate, Vladimir Lyakhov, 47, touched down at 4:50 a.m.
Moscow time (7:50 p.m. Chicago time Tuesday) in Soviet Central Asia.
