Perhaps never has a chilly Labor Day been so embraced by Chicagoans, who gleefully donned sweaters Monday as cool air swept over the much-baked Chicago area.

The day's low was 47 degrees at 5:30 a.m., just three degrees above the 1946 record. The day's high was only 64 - two-thirds the highs for much of the summer.
