Today, rounded entryways and other openings are receiving renewed attention in Midwestern single-family-home designs, says a real estate developer.

"The arch had all but disappeared from the Midwestern market, although it is popular in other parts of the country," said Norman Hassinger, president of Itasca-based Hoffman Homes.

"Now it is on its way back to the Chicago area, due in part to the increased mobility of the nation's population. The Chicago area has a large number of transferees who have been exposed to regional designs," Hoffman said.
