Police horse put to death after hoof is severed

NEW YORK (UPI) A police horse called into action to quell a
disturbance at the Coney Island amusement park had to be killed
Sunday after its hoof was severed as it fled from a firecracker.
The incident occurred about 2 a.m. when Officer Vincent Dowd,
riding Proof, 13, confronted a disorderly park crowd, police said.
