Chrysler's Fifth Avenue is a tired old pony that should have been put out to pasture in the 1970s.

It is a blessing the auto will be dropped at the end of the 1988 model year, although a fair number of buyers who love inefficient old-style luxury cars will lament its death.

A total of 26,079 Fifth Avenues were built from January to July's end, down a bit from 27,757 in the same year-ago period.
