Suburb board votes to bar Jesus film - sight unseen

Mary Macarol is sitting down this morning to write a letter to the movie theaters of Chicago Ridge.

"I'm a wife and a mother first," she explained, "and my religion is very important to me."

Yet, Macarol is also clerk of the southwest suburb of Chicago Ridge, and she is writing the letter on behalf of the village board. The board voted 5-1 Tuesday night to ask local theaters not to show Martin Scorsese's controversial film, "The Last Temptation of Christ."

"It depicts Christ as a derelict having an affair with Mary Magdalene," said Macarol. "This to me is blasphemous."
