Coin frauds could cost collectors a mint

Have you ever wondered why certain coin advertisements appear in fraternal magazines, Sunday supplements and supermarket tabloids, but not in the numismatic press? Give coin collectors credit for being skeptical of their claims.

The Federal Trade Commission, the consumer watchdog agency in Washington, has warned the public many times of false claims about bullion coins. The FTC notes that fraudulent sellers of bullion coins often overprice their coins or mislead consumers about the coins' bullion content.
