Sean MacBride, Irish rebel, crusader for human rights

DUBLIN, Ireland Sean MacBride, an international jurist,
crusader for human rights who won both the Nobel and Lenin peace
prizes, died of pneumonia at his home here Friday. He was 83.
Mr. MacBride devoted his life to the defense of human rights and
to the cause of Irish nationalism.
A founding member and chairman of the human rights group Amnesty
International, he also served at different times as Irish foreign
minister, commander in chief of the Irish Republican Army and an
assistant secretary-general of the United Nations.
