Paul Simon coming on strong // Illinois senator jumps ahead in 3 recent Iowa polls

Suddenly and almost overnight, Paul Simon is in season among
Democrats searching for a 1988 Democratic presidential candidate.
Democratic Chairman Paul Kirk says that Sen. Simon is "the
sleeper in this campaign."
Once dismissed as a long shot, Sen. Simon has jumped in front of
the Democratic pack in three recent polls of Iowa Democratic caucus
participants and is running second to Massachusetts Gov. Michael S.
Dukakis in New Hampshire polls.
