GOREME, Turkey Indefatigable travelers have long sung over the glory
that was Rome, the splendors of Greece, and the fascinations of the
Nile. But few Americans have even heard of, much less visited, that
part of Turkey called Cappadocia.
Germans come, and so do some French, bands of Italians, a few
Swedes. But few indeed are vistors from the United States, and yet
this strange land in the center of Anatolia offers one of the most
