Building an addition to a house requires a delicate weaving of the old and new: old house, new structure; old furniture, new space.

The hallway illustrated here offered a perfect opportunity for making a transition between an old entry and a new living room. The existing kitchen on the other side of the facing wall created a functional reason for using the space as a serving center for group gatherings - a place to mix drinks before an intimate dinner, a serving counter for larger buffet dinners.
